Lingít Class Spring 2024

Online Via Zoom on Wednesdays 10:30 – 11:30 AM January 31 – April 10 (No Class April 3)

Free and Open to the Public!

Haa Tóoch Lichéesh is filled with gratitude as we welcomes back Neelaatughaa Anna Clock as our instructor.

Neelaatughaa is of German descent on her matriline. Her fatherʼs people are Koyukon Athabascan of Kaltag, AK, and Eyak from the Prince William Sound. She works full time as a Native language teacher, teaching Lingít (Tlingit) and Denaakkʼe (Koyukon Athabascan). She loves to laugh, connect with friends, and eat. Her new favorite hobby is boxing and she practices Muay Thai in the evenings. She grew up in Seward, Alaska and now lives in Anchorage on the land of the Denaʼina people.

In this class, we will level-up in our abilities to understand, speak, and write in Lingít. We will study written speeches and recordings of fluent speakers, practice greeting each other and speaking from the heart, and hone our cultural and linguistic fluency for a long-term goal of respectful engagement with Elder speakers. Learners will work on a personal project as they are able during the week, and will review and share our work when we meet for class. We will work as a team to use the resources available to us and find our voices in the language. Gunalchéesh language revitalization partners Discovery Southeast and KTOO for continued support of this program. We appreciate you.

Please register at the link below, and if you have any questions, please email us at htl@awareak.org.

Note: You will automatically receive the link for the weekly Zoom meeting when you register. Please do not share the Zoom link with others unless they are already registered! If you know someone who wants to join from their own computer, phone or other device, please have them register using the form. There is no limit on seating, but HTL needs to track attendance to help us continue to fund these classes. All past class recordings will be available at tlingitlanguage.com, usually uploaded the next week. Gunalchéesh!
