Orange Shirt Day Morning Wave

Orange Shirt Day is an International Day of Remembrance & Raising Awareness about the experiences of Indigenous children who were forced into relocation and assimilation by government-funded, church-run Indian Residential Boarding Schools during the years 1819-1976. It is a day to honor the children who survived this colonial system. It is a time for truth-speaking, and a time for healing together as communities. For more information, visit orangeshirtday.org.
HTL and our partners at the University of Alaska Southeast Native and Rural Student Center invite the community to join us on Monday, September 30th at the Mendenhall Wetlands Scenic View Turnout on Egan Drive in Juneau, where we will wave signs and hold banners, and also sing and drum during the morning commute to raise awareness about Orange Shirt Day. If you have anything orange you can wear, please do! We look forward to seeing you there!
